Sexual Assault 101
- Intended Audience: any adult-focused audience in our service area
- Session Length: 60 minutes
- Objective: This session reviews the rates of sexual violence nationally and locally, the causes of sexual violence, how to support survivors, and how to get involved.
Mandatory Reporting
- Intended Audience: parents or youth-serving professionals
- Session Length: 60 minutes
- Objective: This session reviews the requirements of mandatory reporting. The session ends with a review of action items for participants to support survivors and contribute to a community free of sexual violence.
Analysis and Impact of Rape Culture**
- Intended Audience: any adult-focused audience in our service area
- Session Length: 60 – 90 minutes
- Objective: Participants will leave with a foundational understanding of the issues contributing to sexual violence and will synthesize their understanding of the myths and dynamics of sexual violence with the normalization of sexual harm in media to recognize and explore the impact of rape culture on individuals and communities.
Understanding the Connection Between Pornography and Sexual Violence***
- Intended Audience: any adult-focused audience in our service area
- Session Length: 60 – 90 minutes
- Objective: This presentation outlines the connections between mainstream pornography and sexual violence and uses research to demonstrate the importance of including discussions about violence in pornography in primary prevention of sexual violence curricula.
Human Trafficking and Commercial Sexual Exploitation
- Intended Audience: any adult-focused audience in our service area
- Session Length: 60 minutes
- Objective: This presentation defines human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation, explores its connection to intimate partner violence, and helps participants to understand how primary prevention of sexual violence curricula prevent all forms of sexual exploitation.
An Overview of the Comprehensive Health Education Act and Erin’s Law
- Intended Audience: youth-serving adults working in a school-based setting
- Session Length: 30-60 minutes
- Objective: This presentation reviews the important legislations related to sexual assault prevention programming in SC schools. Participants will review the requirements and restrictions based on the Comprehensive Health Education Act and Erin’s Law, as well as review best practices for primary prevention of sexual violence. The presentation also provides a comprehensive overview of STSM’s services.
*No cost when offered as a single session training. These sessions may be used in conjunction with or as part of fee-based trainings.

Building Healthy Communities©
- Intended Audience: middle school, high school; adult versions also available
- Number of Sessions: 6
- Length of Sessions: 60 – 90 minutes
- Session Topics: Gender Stereotypes and Media Influence on Violence in Relationships, Appropriate Boundary Setting, Effective Communication Strategies, Prevention of Sexual Harassment and Bullying (Middle School)/Stalking (High School/Adult), Healthy Relationships and Prevention of Dating Violence, Building a Community Free of Sexual Violence
- Objective: The goal of Building Healthy Communities© (BHC) is to prevent interpersonal and sexual violence by addressing the risk and protective factors associated with perpetration while building the skills necessary for the establishment and maintenance of healthy relationships. The curriculum also aims to increase the likelihood of intervention by bystanders when a potentially harmful or violent situation arises. BHC© addresses individual and societal beliefs and relationship interactions while engaging participants in a variety of interactive activities including small and large group discussion, videos, songs, and role play. The curriculum is specifically adapted for each grade level beginning with sixth grade and continuing through adulthood and is tailored to meet the age, learning style and developmental needs of participants.
Johns Hopkins University recently conducted an evaluation of prior implementations of BHC to determine program effectiveness, and overall, findings showed positive effects. You can learn more about this report here.
Building Healthy Communities© Facilitator Trainings
- Intended Audience: professionals (teachers, social workers, program staff, etc.) in schools, faith-based organizations, military installations, colleges, correctional facilities, or other community-based settings
- Session length: 3 days (8am – 5 pm approximately each day)
- Objective: To prevent sexual violence through sexual health education and promotion by educating youth-serving adults in primary prevention curriculum implementation
- Cost: Individuals may attend facilitator trainings at a rate of $350 per person per curriculum. Organization specific trainings are offered at the rates listed in the table below.
Building Healthy Communities© Training of the Trainer
- Intended Audience: professionals (teachers, social workers, program staff, etc.) in schools, faith-based organizations, military installations, colleges, correctional facilities, or other community-based settings
- Session length: 1-2 days plus 3-day facilitator training (8am – 5 pm approximately each day)
- Objective: To prevent sexual violence by training professionals in their field to educate other youth-serving adults in sexual violence primary prevention curriculum implementation

Darkness to Light’s Stewards of Children®
- Intended Audience: parents, youth-serving professionals, adults in general
- Approved for 2 hours of CEUS for nurses, social workers, and childcare professionals
- Session length: 2 hours
- Objective: Participants will know how to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse.
