A mandated reporter is someone who is required by law to report reasonable suspicions of abuse. Check your state&#8217;s mandatory reporting laws to determine if your profession is designated as a mandated reporter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mandated Reporting for Children<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>For unmarried children age 15 years or younger, this includes ALL forms of sexual conduct, physical abuse, or child neglect or maltreatment<\/li><li>For children 14-15, consensual sexual conduct with a partner at least 14 years old and at most 18 years old is not a crime (Romeo and Juliet Clause)<\/li><li>The age of consent in South Carolina is 16<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mandated Reporting for Adults<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Adults have the right to decide for themselves whether or not to report a sexual assault or other crimes<\/li><li>The only exception to this is abuse or neglect of a person who meets definition of a &#8220;vulnerable adult&#8221;<ul><li>Eighteen or older<\/li><li>Has a physical or mental condition that substantially impairs him or her from adequately providing for his or her own care or protection&nbsp;<\/li><li>Any resident of a facility&nbsp;is a vulnerable adult.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"bg-margin-for-link\"><input type='hidden' bg_collapse_expand='69fe11b0908a14036713870' value='69fe11b0908a14036713870'><input type='hidden' id='bg-show-more-text-69fe11b0908a14036713870' value='Who is a Mandated Reporter?'><input type='hidden' id='bg-show-less-text-69fe11b0908a14036713870' value='Who is a Mandated Reporter?'><a id='bg-showmore-action-69fe11b0908a14036713870' class='bg-showmore-plg-link bg-arrow '  style=\" color:#c3d500;;\" href='#'>Who is a Mandated Reporter?<\/a><div id='bg-showmore-hidden-69fe11b0908a14036713870' ><br \/>\nMedical, Health, and Mental Health workers<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Physician, nurse, dentist, optometrist<\/li>\n<li>Medical examiners, coroners, funeral home staff<\/li>\n<li>Home health workers, staff or health facilities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Trusted Positions<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Clergy, Christian Science practitioners, religious healers<\/li>\n<li>Child care workers, school counselors, educators, principals, truancy officers<\/li>\n<li>Foster care facilities, foster parents<\/li>\n<li>Law enforcement, judges, guardians ad litem<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Work with vulnerable populations<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Social or public assistance workers<\/li>\n<li>Substance abuse treatment staff<\/li>\n<li>Department of Juvenile Justice officers<\/li>\n<li>Film processors and computer technicians<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"bg-margin-for-link\"><input type='hidden' bg_collapse_expand='69fe11b0909f26066653844' value='69fe11b0909f26066653844'><input type='hidden' id='bg-show-more-text-69fe11b0909f26066653844' value=' Do You Need Proof?'><input type='hidden' id='bg-show-less-text-69fe11b0909f26066653844' value=' Do You Need Proof?'><a id='bg-showmore-action-69fe11b0909f26066653844' class='bg-showmore-plg-link bg-arrow '  style=\" color:#c3d500;;\" href='#'> Do You Need Proof?<\/a><div id='bg-showmore-hidden-69fe11b0909f26066653844' ><br \/>\nNO. Your suspicion of child abuse or neglect is enough to make a report. You are not required to provide proof. South Carolina law protects individuals who make good faith reports of child abuse.
